The men’s race featured Olympian Matthew Centrowitz, who won a gold medal in 2016 in the 1,500-meters, the first U.S. Nikki Hiltz charged away in the final two blocks to set a new Washington state mile record for women with a time of 4 minutes, 21.50 seconds. The prize purse for the elite runners grew to over $45,000 in 2021, sparking fierce competition in the final two elite races. That day, Amos Bartelsmeyer, running for Germany, set a new Washington state record for the mile at 3 minutes, 51.79 seconds! The inaugural Downtown Yakima Mile drew runners of all ages and abilities as they raced against the clock in hopes of setting a new personal best. Make the 2022 Downtown Yakima Mile part of your Fourth of July weekend festivities! Senior citizens are $12.50, and all other runners can register for $25.

It’s about bringing our community together for fun, fitness, and in support of an important cause that serves Yakima YWCA, and its mission to end Domestic Violence in the Yakima Valley. The Downtown Yakima Mile presented by Home2 Suites and Tru by Hilton - Yakima Airport is a one-mile race down a beautiful 14-block gradual downhill stretch of Yakima Avenue, finishing in the shadows of Yakima’s historic Larson Building.
